New Opportunity: Belonging & Civic Muscle Cohort

Published on December 3, 2025

The Inland Empire Vital Conditions Network is excited to introduce a new learning and action opportunity to strengthen Belonging & Civic Muscle across our region. Beginning in early 2026, the Belonging & Civic Muscle Cohort will bring together teams from organizations and networks committed to deepening connection, civic engagement, and community-centered leadership.

Why This Matters

Belonging & Civic Muscle is one of the seven vital conditions that shape equitable well-being. It sits at the heart of how communities build trust, repair divisions, and work together to create a thriving future. Across the Inland Empire, partners are already investing in narrative change, community organizing, relationship-building, and shared learning. This new cohort expands that momentum.

The Cohort will offer a space for teams to explore the inner and collective work of belonging, practice relational and civic skills, and design approaches that strengthen the social fabric of their own communities and networks.

Who is this Cohort For?

This opportunity is designed for cross-sector teams interested in advancing belonging and civic capacity within their spheres of influence. Ideal teams may include those working in:

  • Groups leading across one or more Vital Conditions
  • Interfaith leadership and networks
  • Power-building and organizing groups
  • Journalism, storytelling, or narrative change initiatives
  • Artist collectives and cultural networks
  • Higher education institutions
  • Regional funders
  • Children, youth, and education-focused organizations

If your work touches or strengthens civic life in the Inland Empire, your team may be a strong fit.

What Participants Can Expect

Throughout the year, cohort teams will participate in a blend of in-person learning sessions, virtual peer engagement, and applied work within their home organizations. The experience supports teams as they deepen practice, strengthen relationships, and begin shaping strategies that build belonging and civic muscle across the region.

Each selected team will also receive financial support to participate and advance this work.
